Most bed and breakfasts offer cozy rooms, homemade breakfasts, and a peaceful night’s sleep. The Lizzie Borden Bed & Breakfast offers all of that—with a side of murder mystery.

In 1892, Andrew and Abby Borden were found brutally murdered inside this very house. Suspicion quickly fell on their daughter Lizzie, who was arrested and put on trial. Despite becoming one of the most famous suspects in American history, she was ultimately acquitted.

For the next hundred years, the house was just another house. Then someone had the perfectly normal idea of turning it into a bed and breakfast.

Today, visitors can spend the night in the same home where the infamous crime took place. The owners have embraced the history, decorating the house with period furnishings, crime-scene photos, and enough dark humor to keep things interesting. One sign even warns guests to be careful on the stairs because the house has already had “two fatal head injuries.”

Oddly enough, it’s a popular destination for honeymooners.

Personally, if I’m spending the night in a murder house, I’m keeping one eye open.
