Giant Van Gogh. Ear It Is.
Giant Van Gogh. Ear It Is.

Kansas is the Sunflower State, so it makes sense that you’d find a giant copy of Vincent van Gogh’s 3 Sunflowers in a Vase standing out on the prairie. You know Van Gogh—the artist who famously cut off part of his ear after a disagreement that definitely got out of hand.
At 768 square feet, the painting isn’t anywhere close to being the world’s largest. What makes it special is where it hangs: on the World’s Largest Easel.
Created by artist Cameron Cross, the steel easel stands 80 feet tall and weighs roughly 45,000 pounds. Its supports are sunk 35 feet into the ground, ensuring it stays upright despite the strong Kansas winds and occasional tornadoes.
The giant artwork has become one of the state’s most recognizable roadside attractions, combining fine art with the American tradition of building things just a little bigger than necessary.
So if you find yourself nearby, come take a look. I promise there’s nothing sketchy about it!
