The Enchanted Highway is a 32-mile stretch of road in the middle of nowhere in North Dakota. But it’s well worth the detour. Artist Gary Greff, a metal sculptor and retired school teacher, has been busy creating gigantic sculptures there since 1990.

He started the project as a way to lure people down to the tiny town of Regent, which time had largely passed by. His master plan is to create ten giant sculptures, placing one every few miles along the highway. So far, he has completed seven.

Along the way, giant sculptures rise from the prairie, including geese, grasshoppers, and the famous Tin Family.

Most days, you can still find Gary working on the highway. He does much of the work himself and continues adding to his dream.

So feel free to stop by and say hello before you go see the Tin Family. It’s totally wacked. You’ll need a really tall ladder if you want to try to snatch that boy’s sucker, though!
