Wigwam Motel. Do It in a Teepee.
Wigwam Motel.
Do It in a Teepee.

Cruising down Route 66 in California, it’s hard not to notice the giant neon sign inviting travelers to “Do It in a Teepee.” Subtlety was apparently not part of the business plan at the Wigwam Motel.
Built during America’s golden age of roadside attractions, the motel features rows of concrete teepees that look like a campground designed by someone who really loved novelty architecture. Vintage cars parked outside each room complete the scene, making the whole place feel frozen somewhere between a family vacation and an old postcard.
Most Wigwam Motels disappeared years ago, but a few survivors remain scattered across the country. Thankfully, California kept theirs—along with one of the greatest motel slogans ever put on a sign.
